Certain genres dominate the webtoon format. Fantasies that transport readers to another world. Romances that make us swoon and eager to see how the couple navigates their evolving relationship. What about webtoons that combine both? Fantasy romance webtoons offer the best of both worlds: the romantic tropes and relationship dynamics we love and the political intrigue we want. But given how popular the subgenre is, choosing a story to read can be difficult. So here are six recommendations to get you started.

Under the Oak Tree by Namu, P, and Kim Suji
Based on the popular webnovel by Kim Suji, Under the Oak Tree drops readers into the story after the couple has gotten married! But don’t worry. You didn’t miss the good parts of their relationship. Prior to the start of the series, the couple has spent most of their marriage separated. But now that they’re together again, there’s plenty of steamy and swoony romance to enjoy.

Maximilian has spent her entire life abused by her father due to her stutter, which marks her as deficient in his eyes. Three years ago, he married her off to a lowborn knight named Riftan. Imagine everyone’s surprise when Riftan returns from battle, victorious and the hero of the kingdom. He reunites with his wife, but now they must get to know each other—something Maxi dreads because she fears she’ll disappoint her husband.

My Red String of Fate by Shin Ji-sang, Cumin, and Cheon Jian
You can’t delve into the world of fantasy romance webtoons without running across a transmigration story or two. In this webtoon, Leann transmigrates into a reverse harem novel. But she’s not the heroine nor is she the villainess. She’s a supporting character. Because of this, she decides to live a quiet life and do everything she can to preserve the original plot of the novel. Leann’s hopes might be in vain, though. She can see red strings, which are the signs of death in this new world. Leann has the power to remove them, but this becomes her downfall. She heals a man covered with these red strings and now he won’t leave her alone. Even worse, he’s the villain as well as a lover of the novel’s original heroine.

The Demon Queen Has a Death Wish by Geajuck
Once upon a time, humans and demons observed a peace treaty between their two races. Then one day, humans broke the treaty and started a war against the demons. Too bad for them, demons united under a single queen and crushed the humans. Now humans are in decline and demons rule the world. And the Demon Queen? She’s tired. Very tired. She doesn’t want to rule at all. In fact, she wants to die. That is, until she meets a certain human warrior.

The First Night with the Duke by MSG, Teava, and Hwang Dotol
This transmigration novel also features a heroine that finds herself within the pages of her favorite romance novel. Ripley leaves her college student life behind and becomes a minor character in the story. This doesn’t bother her. She gets to enjoy her character’s luxurious lifestyle while watching the love story unfold with her own two eyes. But her plan goes off the rails when she ends up in bed with Duke Zeronis, the romance novel’s hero. Oops.

Father, I Don’t Want This Marriage by Roal, Yuri, and Hong Heesu
Misunderstandings abound in romances. Some readers hate them. Some readers eat them up. If you fall in the latter category, this webtoon is for you. Based on a webnovel by Hong Heesu, our heroine transmigrates into a novel and discovers she is now the villainess. Not wanting to suffer the villainess’s original fate (aka death), she decides to alter her fate. Everything is going well until her father announces that she’s going to marry the infamous crown prince. Horrified, our heroine resorts to extreme measures—namely starting a fake relationship with her father’s protégé. But he may have some secrets of his own.

The Villainess Becomes the Leading Lady by Aka and Yurinhae
Most people would be horrified to discover that they’ve been reborn as the villainess of a novel. Antagonists normally meet bad ends, after all, and avoiding death requires a lot of maneuvering as other books on this list have demonstrated. But Minjoo is glad to have transmigrated into the wicked Dahlia Margaret. Why? Because this means she left behind her high school bully.

Except Minjoo begins to suspect that her estranged sister, and the original heroine of the novel, might be her former bully. What terrible luck. Who could have predicted that her tormentor would transmigrate into the same novel? Wanting to avoid death, and get revenge in the process, Minjoo—now Dahlia Margaret—makes a deal with a noble to get married and seek vengeance together. Except her new partner might be too much for her to handle.

While fantasy romance webtoons feature plenty of transmigration stories, there are plenty of other options as well, as this list hopefully showed you. And even with transmigration stories, there’s a lot of variety too. Regardless of whether you like trendy plotlines or more classic tales, hopefully you found a title to pique your interest.
