Welcome to the ultimate list of Korean dramas available on Netflix—it’s a list you’ll want to bookmark, save, and revisit time and again after you’ve watched each and every film on this list.
If you’re not already on the K-drama bandwagon, get ready to hop on board. Why? Because K-drama is a genre we can all know and love (whether we’re Korean or not). K-drama gives us something everyone is looking for—heart-stopping, tear-jerking, pass-the-tissues-I’m-not-crying-you’re-crying drama.
Not sure if K-drama is the right fit for you? Trust us, it totally is. If you’re nervous about making the leap to reading subtitles while enjoying a movie, take some advice from Bong Joon-Ho (director of Parasite), who during his Oscars acceptance speech said, “Once you overcome the one-inch-tall barrier of subtitles, you’ll be introduced to many more amazing films.”
Though a barbed comment, he’s not wrong—there are plenty of reasons to give K-drama a shot, and the biggest reason of all is that they’re downright addictive to watch.
Enough talking up K-drama—because in our opinion, once you watch a single film or show you’ll see how Korean dramas more than speak for themselves. For now, get to reading and consulting with our list of the best K-dramas on Netflix right now!
Must-Watch Korean Dramas Available on Netflix (Right Now)
Crash Landing On You
Star-crossed lovers, South Korean wealth, paragliding, and a crash landing in North Korea—so far, this series sounds like it has all the makings of a perfect drama, right? Starring absolute gems of actors like Son Ye-Jin and Hyun Bin, this K-drama is all about finding love in the most surprising places. After South Korean heiress Yoon Se-ri crashes in a paragliding accident and is stranded in North Korea, she’s rescued by (of course) a handsome North Korean soldier. This show is filled with chemistry, powered by passion, and quickly became a global hit famous for its twists, turns, and surprises. It’s actually the currently second-highest rated show in Korean cable TV history.
Boys Over Flowers
A regular teen girl trying to make it an elite high school. Rich classmates who turn up their noses. And a fighting spirit by a plucky hero. This—of course—sounds like the perfect drama, doesn’t it? We’re on board. Boys Over Flowers is basically a K-drama teen soap opera—something we all shamelessly want to sink our teeth into, right? Geum Jan-di is offered a scholarship to an elite school where she struggles to fit in, especially after becoming the target of one of the most popular groups of boys in the school, the F4. Naturally, teen puppy love ensues, a love triangle is thrown in, lots of scandal and high school parties are peppered into the mix, and of course there’s a ton of teen-ish family drama you won’t want to miss.
When the Camellia Blooms
This impressive K-drama is equal parts love story and mystery. Sure, it starts out with a single mother living in a small town who opens a bar named Camellia. But it also somehow merges that story with a serial killer on the loose who’s targeting the protagonist, Dongbaek. Mix in a police officer love interest (Yong-sik) and you’ve got an ever-interesting K-drama story that plucks at your heartstrings and makes you reach for the tissues all while keeping you entranced in a crime story, wondering what may or may not happen.
Hospital Playlist
Hospital Playlist follows the lives and times of five Korean doctors as they navigate life, death, and everything in between at the Yulje Medical Center. These five pals—who have been attached at the hip since medical school—serve up Grey’s Anatomy vibes with plenty of depth, drama, and character development. Now considered one of the highest-rated Korean dramas on Korean cable TV (as of 2020), this dramatic but deviously addictive show is a must-watch for those who relish a little love and drama.
Memories of the Alhambra
Highly creative, with fusions of sci-fi and fantasy, this Korean drama is all about love, talent, and a virtual reality. Off the bat, those things might not seem like they go together, but trust us, they surely do. While this show does offer all the normal and desired factors of a drama, it also teaches interesting lessons about augmented reality games and how they alter a person’s experiences around them. Full of twists, surprising turns, and lots of unexpected drama, this is a must-watch!
Mr. Sunshine
Eugene Choi, born into slavery during the Joseon Period, escapes to the United States in this must-watch period drama that tirelessly taps into your emotions, your heart, and your soul. Choi ends up becoming a U.S. Marine who chooses to go back to the Joseon kingdom on a mission, where he meets and falls in love with Ae-sin. What he doesn’t know is that Ae-sin is an aristocratic woman who’s secretly fighting for Korea’s independence. The result? A struggle between class, status, arranged marriages, and an empire’s plot to colonize Korea. In other words, the perfect (perfect!) Korean drama.
